from behind me. and the tsa agent that was near me urged me to grab my stuff and go. he saw that i didn't have my shoes on. so he grabbed the shoes, and the two of us started running down the corridor towards the gate. meanwhile, more shots rang out. and this agent got hit. i think it was a grazing wound. because he seemed to be okay. he had my shoes. i went and kind of cowered in a corner. and the shooter was just calmly walking down the corridor. he saw me cowering there. he had his gun and he looked at me and he said, tsa? and i just shook my head. he kept going. >> how did he seem to you? what did he look like? what was his expression? >> he didn't act like -- you know it was kind of hard to seat expression. i was more focused on his weapon. it was a rifle, looked like an assault rifle. not sure what kind it would have been. but he was dressed normally. he had short hair, a light complexion. just maybe blue jeans or gray jacket or something like that. >> and when he asked you when he said tsa, did you realize what he meant? did you realize that -- >> absolutely. if i had a tsa

killing a tsa officer and bringing chaos to one of the world's busiest airports. >> today in our enhanced deployment for los angeles world airport, los angeles police department has committed additional resources. this morning i met with the federal air marshals and they're providing additional resources for us. obviously today and for the foreseeable future we'll continue our very high profile at the curbs and anywhere in those ticketing areas and anywhere on our campuses. >> we're also learning some new troubling clues emerging about the suspect 23-year-old paul ciancia. a source tells cnn the suspect had a note with an anti-tsa rant. the note also reflected his fear of an ominous new world order. our affiliates kcal and kcbs got the exclusive video and it appears to show the suspect handcuffed to the stretcher. cnn cannot independently confirm who it is. we also have video of the chaos inside the airport moments after shots were fired, and you can hear police screaming for people to get down. >> on the floor! on the floor now! on the floor! >> chill, chill, chill, chill. >> go

agents was killed in the shooting. another tsa employees were injured. police list a total of seven people wounded. it's unclear exactly how that breaks down. the gunman is believed to have acted alone according to lapd. according to police, this individual, the suspect, pulled an assault rifle out of his bag, that's the words of the police, assault rifle, and opened fire. he charged back into the screening area and walked well inside the airport terminal before security ultimately caught up with him. an intelligence officer briefed by the lapd says the gunman was shot in the chest multiple times. now that shooter is said to be in custody. two sources tell cnn the shooter is not, repeat, not a current or former tsa officer, despite reports from other media. airport officials say l.a.x. is technically still open but it's only accepting flights at less than half the normal rate. any flight coming out of l.a.x. or through l.a.x. will be significantly late. officials are hoping passengers just stay away from the airport at this point at least for the rest of the afternoon. as for the pa

gunman with a high-powered rifle entered terminal three and opened fire. shooting a tsa security agent. it is unclear, this is one of many things we do not know at this hour. whether or not that gunman actually breached security. according to her sources, it does not appear that that individual did that, but also according to deb, the gunman is believed to have been shot and is now in police custody. we're hearing right now as this is still underway here, as you see a tremendous law enforcement presence at l.a.x., hearing from a number of eyewitnesses here and looking, as you can see a couple different boxes on your screen. aerial pictures, right side of the screen, a bunch of planes just sitting there around terminal three, and on the left-hand side of the screen, this is the passenger pickup and drop-off area which has become sort of this makeshift triage area as well. and in the last hour or sore so, we have seen people, as has been dubbed a multipatient incident. multiple people injured. we're working to get an update on the injuries, as we mentioned, one of whom is a tsa agent. sa

. the widow of the tsa officer killed in the brutal attack at l.a.x. speaking out. listen. >> hello, everybody. thank you for coming out. i know you have been waiting for a statement from the family. thank you for respecting the fact we are hurting. my husband passed away. here is a statement. he was born and moved to the united states at the age of 15. he graduated from high school. we met in 1994 when i was 16 and he was 19 and have been together ever since. we married on valentine's day in 1998 and had two beautiful children. he worked for the tsa organization since 2010. he was a security officer. he was always excited to go to work and enjoy the passengers at l.a.x. he was a joyful person, always smiling and took pride in his duty to the american public. he was a great man who always showed his love for our family. he was always there to help anyone in need and always made people laugh with his wonderful sense of humor. he was a wonderful husband, father, brother, son and friend. he would have been 40 next week. i am truly devastated. we are all heart broken. we will miss him d

anthony ciancia. he shot one tsa officer and wounded several others. the airport is open again and details tonight emerging. we have more from the airport and chris lawrence outside the suspect's home in new jersey. we'll begin, what do we know about what happened today? >> reporter: passengers say it was a normal day at the airport when suddenly they heard very, very loud popping, one man said it sound the like it must have been from a large gun. many saw spark s and started running. there was the beat of calm and then absolute chaos, sheer terror as people were trying to flee this terminal. what happened afterwards is that after this gunman was taken down by the police, passengers here were completely stuck and it was gridlock. you can see, piers, there is still people walking up and down the streets trying to figure out how to get to the next destination. >> and in terms of actually what he did, we now know she shot dead one tsa officer. we think he wounded a second tsa officer, a third person was also wounded. we believe and others may have suffered minor injuries in the stampe

, killed 39-year-old gerardo hernandez. the first tsa officer killed in the line of duty in the agency's history. two additional agents were wounded. joining me from austin, texas, is the chairman of the house homeland security committee, michael mccall. congressman, thank you very much for joining us. i think in the aftermath of this, the question i hear most often is, why did he do this. what do you know about that? i know you've been able to see some of the notes he wrote. what do you think the motivation was here? >> i think mental illness again, like the navy yard shooter that we saw. the suicide note i read talks a lot about killing tsa agents. he said, "if i just kill one, my mission is accomplished." and unfortunately, he did do that the other day. the other thing he wanted to talk about is how easy it is to bring a gun into an airport and do something like he did. my sympathies go out to the hernandez family and the other victims. this tragic day -- as you mentioned, he's the first tsa agent, officer to be killed in the line of duty. >> it's our understanding that much

suspect paul anthony ciancia. he shot one tsa officer and wounded several others. the airport is open again and details tonight emerging. we have more from the airport and chris lawrence outside the suspect's home in new jersey. we'll begin, what do we know about what happened today? >> reporter: passengers say it was a normal day at the airport when suddenly they heard very, very loud popping, one man said it sound the like it must have been from a large gun. many saw spark s and started running. there was the beat of calm and then absolute chaos, sheer terror as people were trying to flee this terminal. what happened afterwards is that after this gunman was taken down by the police, passengers here were completely stuck and it was gridlock. you can see, piers, there is still people walking up and down the streets trying to figure out how to get to the next destination. >> and in terms of actually what he did, we now know she shot dead one tsa officer. we think he wounded a second tsa officer, a third person was also wounded. we believe and others may have suffered minor injurie
